Phenomenal Woman

I am not one to do the RIP status or such.  I know death is something that we all have to face but I just hate doing these RIP posts.  But today, I felt that this woman that I have never met in my life deserves a RIP blog post.  Writing this is even bringing tears to my eyes for someone I do not know personally, but was such a wonderful, phenomenal woman.

This lady has lived a life that many of us wished that we did and would maybe look to live.  Her writings and words touched many of us whether young or old.

Here I leave you with verses of 2 of my favorite poems by Maya Angelou:

Phenomenal Woman

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms,
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Still I Rise

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
‘Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.

May your rest in peace and rise in glory, Maya Angelou.
