LGBTQIA+ Pride Month is celebrated in June because it traces its history and roots to the June 1969 Stonewall Uprising, which is considered the catalyst for the Gay Liberation Movement (according to the Library of Congress). The month recognizes and honors the historical impact LGBTQIA+ individuals have on their communities worldwide.
